A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to authorize a debtor to retain firearms valued at up to Five thousand dollars free from the enforcement of the claims of creditors.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. G.S. 1C‑1601(a) reads as rewritten:
"§ 1C‑1601. What property exempt; waiver; exceptions.
(a) Exempt property. – Each individual, resident of this State, who is a debtor is entitled to retain free of the enforcement of the claims of creditors:
…
(13) The debtor's aggregate interest in any lawfully possessed firearms, not to exceed a total of five thousand dollars ($5,000) in value. This exemption shall apply to a total of no more than two handguns and four rifles or shotguns."
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective October 1, 2015.
