SYNOPSIS
Supplemental appropriation of $250,000 to DLPS to assist local police departments in paying for new NICS terminals.

A Supplement to "An Act making appropriations for the support of the State Government and the several public purposes for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006 and regulating the disbursement thereof," approved July 2, 2005 (P.L.2005, c.132)
Be It Enacted by the Senate and the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. In addition to the amounts appropriated under P.L.2005, c.132, there is appropriated out of the General Fund the following sum for the purpose specified:

The amount appropriated herein for the N.C.I.C. Local Technology Program shall be used to implement a program under the Department of Law and Public Safety which will enable local police departments to receive assistance to install N.C.I.C. terminals.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill makes a supplemental appropriation of $250,000 from the General Fund to the Department of Law and Public Safety for grants to assist local law enforcement agencies install new or additional N.C.I.C. terminals and other mobile data terminals essential to police and homeland security work.
N.C.I.C. funds were made available to local law enforcement agencies to install new the new terminals and lines, however at this time due to a lack of funding the smaller police departments are charged an initial installation fee and a monthly fee when requesting these services. This appropriation will provide assistance for the smaller police departments.
