Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the Department of Public Health shall ensure that any physician licensed to practice medicine in all its branches or health care provider who sees or treats children 6 years of age or younger shall assess those children for their access to unsecured firearms when those children reside in a home that has firearms. Provides that children residing in a home that does not contain firearms shall be evaluated for risk by the Childhood Firearm Access Risk Questionnaire developed by the Department and assessed if indicated. Provides that children shall be evaluated in accordance with rules adopted by the Department. Makes other changes. Effective January 1, 2024.

6 | | amended by adding Section 2310-475 as follows:

8 | | Sec. 2310-475. Safe gun storage; pediatricians; |
9 | | dissemination by the Department. |
10 | | (a) The Department shall ensure that any physician |
11 | | licensed to practice medicine in all its branches or health |
12 | | care provider who sees or treats children 6 years of age or |
13 | | younger shall assess those children for their access to |
14 | | unsecured firearms when those children reside in a home that |
15 | | has firearms. Children residing in a home that does not |
16 | | contain firearms shall be evaluated for risk by the Childhood |
17 | | Firearm Access Risk Questionnaire developed by the Department |
18 | | and assessed if indicated. Children shall be evaluated in |
19 | | accordance with rules adopted by the Department. |
20 | | (b) The Department shall ensure that each licensed, |
21 | | registered, or approved health care facility serving children |
22 | | 6 years of age or younger, including, but not limited to, |
23 | | health departments, hospitals, clinics, and health maintenance |
