no frills
The adequacy of firearms varies greatly, unless one is looking for shotguns, where it is plentiful; chain stores must be limited by how much they can stock up on. The ammunition selection is getting better, there are at least boxes on the shelves now, but the prices will likely never what they were. The selection of accessories leaves a little to the imagination, unless you live and die by Uncle Mikes, Hoppes, and Blackhawk. The prices are midpoint to mid-high of the market, but creeping slowly higher from said midpoint, again perhaps a chain is limited in what they can price at individual stores. The knowledge level, on average is OK, there is more of a "take a number" feel and one had better know what they want when the time comes; the walking, waiting and browsing would be suffered easier if they still had the fudge/treat counter in the store adjacent to the firearms.

Scheels review
Scheels has a large selection of handguns, rifles and all the accessories i was looking for. They have staff that knew the answers to most of the questions I had.
